How to avoid stock market crashes

The New York Stock Exchange, the world’s largest exchange, on Wednesday said it had halted trading on its stock index.

The NYSE said on its website that the suspension was due to an internal computer outage and it would resume trading once it was resolved.

The stock market index of the S&P 500, the benchmark for U.S. stocks, was up 0.4 percent at 2,977.23.

The Nasdaq composite index was up 3.4 points at 4,965.70.

The U.K. S&p 500 was up 1.4%, while the Russell 2000 was up 5.3%.
